Residency and Extern Programs: Teaching Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation

One of the guiding principles to our advanced standard of care at Wow Vision Therapy is through our commitment to teaching the next generation of Doctors of Optometry in vision therapy and rehabilitation.

At Wow Vision Therapy, for those who qualify, we offer an ASCO accredited one year, post-doctoral private practice residency program through Southern College of Optometry. We accept two licensed Doctors of Optometry, one in Grand Rapids and one in St Joseph. In addition, we offer an accredited extern program through Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University, Illinois College of Optometry and the University of Missouri- St Louis College of Optometry.

Through teaching, we strive to find answers to complex patient challenges in developmental vision and rehabilitation. Whether it be a complex form of strabismus and amblyopia, learning-related vision problem, or a person who has suffered post-concussion vision syndrome due to a traumatic brain injury or concussion. By educating our young doctors, we continue to stay on the cutting edge in the optometric specialty of vision therapy and rehabilitation and obtain better patient outcomes as a result.

For the young doctors who complete their residency, and/or externship with us, their personal experience can be filled with life-changing moments. To better understand, take a look at this video produced by the VisionHelp Group. We are proud to note that it features two past residents from Wow Vision Therapy, Dr. Rae Winters-McClain, and Dr. Tuan Tran.
