What I Enjoy Most About Working at Wow Vision Therapy

The aspect I love the most about working at Wow Vision Therapy; I know I am making a difference in peoples’ lives. At first, they may seem like small changes, but our patients leave our care with confidence knowing that they can dream bigger with their personal goals and succeed at them if they are willing to put the time and effort into it.

A Little More About Me

While working here at Wow Vision Therapy, I have found passion in reaching out to the kids who do not yet have the confidence they need to succeed. The kids who think that they are “dumb” or “stupid.” When kids come here for therapy to improve with vision and learning, we slowly but surely see them improving on understanding letters or numbers. This is an import task in order to form words on their own or solve math problems easier because they are able to line everything. When they start to succeed at Wow Vision Therapy, their attitude changes into, “This is a challenge, but I CAN DO IT!” Whereas before everything was a struggle and their first response was, “I can’t do that.”

My Interests Outside of Work

Outside of work, I like to bake goodies, read books, listen to music (a healthy variety!), crochet, play with my dogs, watch my niece and nephew, and take walks on the beach.

My Interests Outside of Work

I am married with 2 adult children. When not at work I enjoy reading a good book, watching t.v. and hanging out with my family, which includes my cats. I also like playing games and and going fishing with my husband.

What I enjoy most about working at Wow Vision Therapy

My responsibilities as a vision therapist present many challenges but provide greater rewards. Visual challenges complicate daily tasks, such as reading, walking and even learning. I find it most rewarding to offer patients a different way of learning, one that relies on vision first, then incorporates the other sensory systems. I often share a second-grade teacher truth during therapy simply, “Look, listen, learn.” Truthfully, I have gained great insight using this method of taking in information visually.

A Little More About Me

My life has greater meaning because of my connection with my Wow team and our patient interactions.

What I Enjoy Most About Working at Wow Vision Therapy

I love having a front row seat as I help my patients explore and discover greater and stronger vision skills while celebrating the increased confidence and freedom vision therapy brings into their daily lives.

A Little More About Me

I was a patient at Wow Vision Therapy myself several years ago. Before that, I had absolutely no idea that I had no depth perception whatsoever. I assumed that everyone experienced the world like a flat photograph. After starting therapy, I was amazed to watch the world explode into 3D for the very first time! It was simply magical! Having gone through therapy myself helps me as I try to put myself in my patients’ shoes and see the world as they see it. This helps me to discern what therapeutic activities would best help them in each of their unique situations. I feel lucky to be part of sharing the gift of a higher quality of life that we at Wow Vision Therapy provide to our patients.

My Interests Outside of Work

When I’m not at work, I enjoy creating beauty through interior design and art, long chats with friends about personal transformations, listening to my sons sing and play the saxophone, watching them play a wide variety of sports, and creating fun in people’s kitchens at my Pampered Chef parties.

What I Enjoy Most About Working at Wow Vision Therapy

I originally learned about Vision Therapy in San Diego and fell in love with it while working with Dr. Hillier. Through my experience over the years, I have met many interesting people and learned far more than I ever imagined. It has allowed me to understand what others may be experiencing. Every day at Wow Vision Therapy, my job is rewarding because I consistently see how my work affects the lives of my patients. Having a master’s degree in education, I have a passion for helping others to excel in their own lives, which I am also able to do through Vision Therapy. I specialized in math and reading education, which is what a lot of our patients struggle with in school. By working on visual information processing and visual imagery, I am able to help these patients work through the challenges they face in school and in life.

My Interests Outside of Work

My husband and I love to travel! We are currently renovating an older home we just bought which takes up a lot of our time. Our two cats, Freddie and Frankie, keep us entertained on a daily basis. My other hobbies include reading, gardening, music, hiking, and creating.

WHAT I ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING AT WOW VISION THERAPY

All too often, very bright people struggle to learn. They may never even realize that their life difficulties are rooted in problems with vision. For me, I enjoy working at Wow Vision Therapy because I have found it to be a place of refuge for many. It is amazing to watch people learn that a whole new world of hope and discovery is out there, just waiting to be explored. When vision skills are remediated, a potential is unlocked. I am honored to be a part of an amazing team, which has the pleasure of seeing successes unfold right before our own eyes. They had me at WOW!

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME

I have enjoyed working with people with developmental disabilities for many years as an occupational therapist, in sensory integration. Knowing that 80% of our sensory information comes to us through our sense of sight is powerful to me. Specializing in vision rehabilitation has allowed me to think on sensory integration in a whole new light, and I am thankful for these discoveries.

MY INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF WORK

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband and I have three amazing kids, and one chocolate Labrador Retriever. We enjoy sports of many kinds, traveling, making music, boating, the beach, skiing on water and snow, and just being together.
